Echoes Radio Performance |
|
On April 23, Hem played 6 songs live for Echoes, a syndicated national public radio program. Their performance (Half Acre, The Seed, Tourniquet, Departure And Farewell (lovely and sparse without drums for once), So Long, and Not California) and interviews between each song aired on May 27. This is completely different than the Echoes interview that aired on May 2 (and is linked to in the May 17 update below as a free podcast). You can listen to the show by finding a radio station that airs the program this week (the Echoes site has a big list by state, and most of those stations also stream online and have schedules that say when they air Echoes) or by buying an Echoes site membership that lets you stream the program right away. You can find a permanent link to this radio spot at the interview archive. |
Meanings Update |
From yesterday's interview, the Departure And Farewell meanings page has been updated to include some words from Dan about "Tourniquet" and "So Long," and from Sally and Dan about "Departure And Farewell." |
Album Podcasts |
Hem has started sharing their Departure And Farewell podcasts, first mentioned here back on March 30. Two are available, one for the title track, and one for the song "Walking Past The Graveyard, Not Breathing." Go, listen! They're great! If you listen to the title track podcast first, make sure to listen for the stomps during "Dan in July" because they'll help you understand the truth talked about in the other podcast. (You can also skip the last two, totally silent minutes of Episode 1.) These are the first two songs on the album, so it looks like Hem might be running through each of the album's tracks. You can stream or download these two podcasts below, or you can hear/download them at iTunes. You can also find them on the Departure And Farewell meanings page. Also, if you missed them before, check out Hem's Funnel Cloud podcasts. |
Mailing List Update |
In case you missed the news update that just went out on Hem's mailing list, here are some highlights. And if you're not on the list, sign up below! There are a small number of mailings, but they always share something interesting. You can also sign up for All About Hem's mailing list, which shares each site update so you get the latest Hem news before anybody else! Some news appears even faster at Twitter. On to the recent mailing list news: |
1. Vinyl! Hem will finally have something available on vinyl! Departure And Farewell should be available soon. |
2. More tour dates are coming for the UK around the time of the already-scheduled October 11 show in London. |
3. Tour dates are also coming in the fall for the US west coast, US south, and central US. |
Echoes Interview |
|
Hem's April 30 interview on the radio show Echoes is now available as a free iTunes podcast. Go hear, among other things, about the Hem - Hee Haw connection you always wondered about. You can find a permanent link to this audio interview and many more at the interview archive. |
New Show in London |
Congratulations, London! You're the latest city to get a Hem show. See the band at Union Chapel on October 11. Tickets go on sale at 10am on May 16. More details about this and all other upcoming shows are on the tour page. |
May 4 New York Videos |
Here are a couple new videos from Hem's May 4 New York show, full performances of "Departure And Farewell" and "Idle." They're both tragically dark, but you get the beautiful idea. In other video news, another animated video is on the horizon, this time for "The Jack Pine." If you missed them before, check out the animated videos for "Tourniquet" and "Seven Angels." |
May 4 New York Photos |
|
Click on the little image to the left or visit the May 4 show page to see some photos of Hem at The Bowery Ballroom in New York. (Thanks to Keith for the last few rows of photos!). Video is still on the way! You can find a permanent link to these and many other concert photos at the tour pictures archive. |
Hear the May 4 New York Show |
If you missed Hem's show last Saturday at the Bowery Ballroom in New York, cry no more because now you can hear it! Visit here to download or stream not just Hem's complete set but also the whole opener from Dawn Landes, who played a lot of songs from her upcoming album, which sounds good. Go, listen, now! (Thanks, Keith!) And as promised in the last news update, I really do have pictures and video from this show on the way soon. |
May 4 New York Setlist |
Click here for the setlist from Hem's show last night at the Bowery Ballroom in New York. "Idle" finally made a 2013 appearance! (Thanks, Dan.) The full band was on hand including special out of town guests Bob (pedal steel & dobro) and Heather (violin). Pictures, audio, and video from the show will be here soon. For now, here is a video of the band performing "Half Acre" at the show. |
The Leonard Lopate Show |
Hem performed live today on WNYC's The Leonard Lopate Show. The interview and live performance can be streamed or downloaded here or streamed below. (And it's Ellyson, not Ellysin. Ellyson! Poor Sally having more name misspellings with this album than all the others put together. Spelling error is now fixed at WNYC's site! Let's all assume that WNYC reads All About Hem.) The program runs: interview - "Tourniquet" live - interview - "So Long" live - interview. You can find a permanent link to this radio spot at the interview archive. |
Meanings Update |
From today's interview, the Departure And Farewell meanings page has been updated to include some words from Sally about the song "So Long," and the miscellaneous meanings page has a rare update with a little bit more about the band's name. Funnily enough, the previous last entry for Hem's name was from another WNYC visit, one on the program Soundcheck back on April 14, 2005. You can stream that oldie below (Hem's segment starts at about 31:45). |
Echoes Radio Show |
|
On April 23, Hem recorded an interview session for Echoes, a syndicated national public radio program. Their segment aired on April 30. Dan, Gary, Sally, and Steve all talk, as accurately described by the program, "about drugs, love, divorce, redemption and Hee Haw." The little photo to the left is the band at the studio. Click here to see another photo of Hem at the studio (though it looks like the band is playing a song here, the Echoes segment is interview only). You can listen to the show by finding a radio station that airs the program (the Echoes site has a big list by state, and most of those stations also stream online and have schedules that say when they air Echoes) or by buying an Echoes site membership that lets you stream the program right away. You can find a permanent link to this radio spot at the interview archive. |
