Hem Podcast |
The third podcast in Hem's Departure And Farewell podcast series is now here! It's Dan and Gary talking about the album's third song, "Things Are Not Perfect In Our Yard." Listen to it below, or find it on the Departure And Farewell meanings page along with the first two podcasts (and a lot of other details about various songs). If you want to judge for yourself whether the song was successful live the one and only time Hem performed it, you can stream that live performance below too. It's from the March 15, 2013 show - and the state names at the beginning of the song are guesses of where people traveled from to be at the show. |

The Bob Edwards Show |
This week Hem had another lovely spot on The Bob Edwards Show on XM Satellite Radio. Sally, Dan, Steve, and Gary chat about making Departure And Farewell, the beauty of painful songs, addiction, and the strength and comfort of the band. Also, Hem as an 8-piece group performs the songs "Departure And Farewell," "Tourniquet," "Walking Past The Graveyard, Not Breathing," "The Jack Pine," and "So Long" live in studio. You can find this show at Audible.com. You can hear Hem's two previous Bob Edwards Show appearances right here at All About Hem, one from February 10, 2005 and another from from November 27, 2006. |
Departure And Farewell Meanings |
Departure And Farewell Vinyl |
Amazon.com has Departure And Farewell on vinyl up for pre-order with a release date of September 17, 2013. Hem previously said something about a special ordering opportunity for this vinyl, but no word yet on what that opportunity may be or when it may appear. In any event, enjoy the fact that there's finally a Hem release coming on vinyl! |
Brooklyn Show Video |
Below, please enjoy a video of "Seven Angels," one of the best songs performed at Hem's house show earlier this week in Brooklyn. (Thanks, Pete!) You can also find this video, as well as other media from the show, at the show's page. |
Seattle Show |
Tickets are on sale for Hem's show at Columbia City Theater in Seattle on September 18! You can find more details about this and other upcoming shows on the tour page. |

You can also see a video of (some of) "Stupid Mouth Shut" below. This is an audience video and are audience photos - you can see the pro videographer in some of the performance photos. Thanks again to Hem for this special little show! |
July 13 Brooklyn Show |
Click here for the setlist from today's show in Brooklyn that was held at Dan's house. It was a lot of fun and the most intimate Hem show any of us in the audience may ever see! Thanks to all the audience members for being so nice and enthusiastic, and thanks to Hem for asking me (Christina) to have the contest for tickets here at All About Hem. Pictures from the show will be here shortly (and if you were there and have photos/video to share - and I know some of you had out cameras! - let me know). The show was professionally recorded (audio & video), and hopefully at least part of it will be online somwehere in the near-ish future. Hem is still also planning to do three more house shows in Brooklyn - stay tuned for the date of the next one. |
Tour Updates |
Ticket winners have been contacted for Hem's House Show in Brooklyn. Thank you to everybody who entered the ticket contest! (And entrants may still hear from me at the last minute if any of the winners cannot attend the show.) For those of you in Oregon across the country from Brooklyn, tickets for Hem's September 17 show in Portland go on sale July 19 at 10am. |
New Tour Dates |
US and UK, you both get new tour dates today! Hem will visit Portland and Seattle in September, and Bath, Sheffield, Manchester, and Glasgow in October. Tickets for the UK shows go on sale at various times on Friday, July 5. Still waiting on tickets for the Portland and Seattle shows. You can find more details about these shows on the tour page. |
House Show in Brooklyn |
Hem will be playing a very intimate house show in Brooklyn, NY on Saturday, July 13 at 2pm, and the only way you can get a ticket is through a contest right here at All About Hem! Only sixteen seats are up for grabs.
For your chance to attend the show, send an email before 11:59pm (ET) July 9 with:
1) your favorite Hem lyric and, if you want, why it's your favorite (all lyrics here),
2) whether you want one or two tickets, and
3) your full name.
4) Optional: if you're local and could make the show on very short notice, your phone number so you can go on the standby list and be called in case one of the ticket winners cannot make it at the last minute.
Winners will be chosen at random (and standby listers will be randomized too). Ticket winners will be emailed on July 10 and will be required to confirm their attendance. Please only enter the contest if you know you will be able to come to the show. With so few seats, we want to make sure all spots are filled! These and a few more contest details are on the show's page here. Also, Hem has confirmed this show. It is real!
This show is actually the first of four house shows, one at each of the band member's houses, so if you can't make this one or don't get a ticket, you should have some more chances. (No, dates are not set for the other shows). Thanks to Hem for this treat for fans and for asking All About Hem to help with the show! |
