Little Silver
Hem's Steve Curtis has a brand new EP called The Stolen Souvenir as part of a project called Little Silver with the completely delightful Erika Simonian. You can watch a video for the song "Where We Met" below and hear the EP here. Go watch, listen, and buy now!
Trivia #1: the video is from Jim Collier, who also made Hem's video for "Not California", which you can read more about in the March 2008 All About Hem archive.
Trivia #2: If you're on Hem's mailing list, which of course you should be, you saw that in recently talking a bit about Little Silver, Steve mentioned that Hem's been busy this fall working on the upcoming album Departure and Farewell. I thought I'd mentioned Hem's continued album work recently in the news, but I must be thinking of all the emails I've been answering about progress on the album. Since the last random status update in June, I've had the pleasure of hearing more of the new tracks in progress, and they are pretty swoon-worthy, especially that title track. Keep watching the news for more updates.

Tiffany & Co. & Hem
Hem's version of the classic song "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" can now be heard in an ad for Tiffany & Co. - yes, the little blue box jewelry people who are welcome to send me presents anytime. Today the ad is at the top of the New York Times homepage. If/when it's available elsewhere, you'll find out here in the news (let me know if you see the ad anywhere!). You can get the song in many places, like iTunes (here or here) and Amazon (here or here), on one of the multiple albums on which it's been released. December 3 update: Watch it here!

Rise of Seven Angels
Hem donated the song "Seven Angels" to the upcoming album Joey's Song, Adult CD Volume 1. The CD is slated for release on January 25, 2011, with proceeds going to the Epilepsy Foundation in honor of Joseph Gomoll, who died at age 4 after suffering from Dravetís Syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy. You can learn more about Joey's Song here and donate to kickstart the album here. Lyrics to "Seven Angels" are here. This song has been listed on the Departure and Farewell album page (see song #4) for quite a while, so I also updated that page to include mention of this album. You can find a permanent link to this album on the discography page in the compilations section.

Visit "This House"
Paul Heaton released a new album this week called Acid Country. Hem fans should care very much about that because Hem's Sally Ellyson sings on one of the album's songs, "This House." There's a lot of Sally in the song - you won't be straining to hear her voice at all. Go buy the song now! Unless you live in North America, where the song (and album) apparently aren't available except as an import CD. In other parts of the world, it's available everywhere, like at Amazon UK. Paul Heaton has old Hem connections, having included Hem's "Lazy Eye" on a compilation album called Under the Influence in 2004, and having toured (as part of The Beautiful South) with Hem at a series of shows in 2005.

Download a New Hem Song!
Brand new for your ears is a Hem song called "Traveler's Song," which you can get for free (free!) on the new sampler Ear To The Ground: No Depression. HOORAY! Hem provided the song to No Depression, and it's exclusively available through this sampler. Lyrics are here. You can download the song at Limewire here, but I'm afraid it's only available for folks in the U.S. This song has been listed on the Departure and Farewell album page (see song #12) for almost a year and a half, so I also updated that page to include mention of this free download. You can find a permanent link to this album on the discography page in the compilations section. Finally, when you're done downloading and listening (go, now!), take some time to read a nice, long No Depression article about Hem from 2004 when Eveningland was released, which you can find along with a ton of other articles at the articles archive.

Double Discography Update
The discography page has a couple new additions. First, the first official incarnation of Rabbit Songs, an independently-released Waveland edition, is updated with the packaging it has different from all subsequent releases. It's a collage of band members under the CD. (Sorry for the blurriness. Without destroying the packaging, I couldn't clearly capture the collage through the plastic disc case. At least the band is probably happy about the low quality since most of these collage images never again saw the light of day. Until now. You're welcome, Hem!) Second, I added a 2002 Bar/None Records Sampler, including Hem's "Half Acre," to the compilations section.
2006 Tour Poster
The 2006 tour archive has been updated with an elaborate poster for Hem's show on October 9, 2021 at the Phoenix Hill Tavern in Louisville, Kentucky. Better late than never! Although, I just got it, so the lesson is that it's never too late to send your Hem-related goodies to All About Hem.

Departure And Farewell Update
I recently had the pleasure of hearing some of the in-progress songs for Hem's upcoming album Departure And Farewell. They're so good, you guys. It's been a few years since the last full album (September 2006, not counting last year's Twelfth Night), but it looks like greatness takes time.
Friday Night Lights
Hem was mentioned in last Friday's episode of Friday Night Lights (season 4, episode 6, "Stay"). You can watch it below and for at least the next few weeks at Hulu. Some of the (awesome) characters go to Austin, Texas for an indie music festival and talk about going to see Hem. The brief mention of the band is a few seconds after the 28 minute mark. ETA: The TV season is over, and the video is no longer available at Hulu.
