|June 26 Boston Symphony Hall Show Reviews|
|Two more good reviews of Hem's June 26 performance with the Boston Pops: Boston Phoenix and Patriot Ledger. The first review has a comment from Sally about the show, so I added it to the interview archive. Both of these reviews (also available through the 2007 tour archive), like the two posted in the previous news update, also talk about the three enjoyable, interesting Pops performances that preceded Hem's main set: Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, Wish You Were Here (a piece by Nico Muhly commissioned for this Boston Pops Edgefest series), and Travelacoustica: Symphonic Remix (DJ Paul Oakenfold and Andreas Brobjer adding all sorts of electronic mixing and drum beats to a piece by Felix Brenner also commissioned for this series).|
||The discography page now has a picture of the CD art for a limited release of Hem's new EP Home Again, Home Again. You can also click on the preview to the left to see a larger image. This version of the CD was available at Hem's two Boston Symphony Hall performances this week. I don't think it will be available elsewhere (except maybe at the show on July 1) because the regular, in-stores version of the CD with the light blue ship theme will be out soon.|
|June 26-27 Boston Symphony Hall Shows of Awesomeness|
|There's a lot of news to share about these shows, and I'm only just getting started. Sorry that there will be a delay - I'm so tired, and I have a lot of stuff!
|The night's setlist is now available, with a few minor corrections from the one posted yesterday.
||In concert rehearsal news from this day, the early setlist included one song that was "Let Go," so to speak. I also added one more rehearsal picture (the last one) to the couple already posted.|
|Boston's two major newspapers both nicely reviewed this show: Boston Globe and Boston Herald|
||Click here for this show's setlist, which differed a little from the first night. There's even a picture there of the actual setlist along with Hem's dressing room door sign (nicely pilfered and shared by one of Sally's delightful relatives).|
|Stay tuned because over the next few days I'll share more photos in what will probably be a series of news updates. Because All About Hem had a press pass!
Last but certainly not least, I can't thank Hem enough for making these shows so marvelous. On a personal note, every single person in the band (and their family members too - Hello, all you lovely family people!) was so welcoming, thoughtful, and kind to me with their words and time. Very true thanks to you crazy lot for everything.
|June 26 Boston Symphony Hall Show|
||I do not yet have the words to describe this show's complete grandness, so song titles will have to do. Click on the small image to the left to see the night's setlist and to see a photo of the grand setting from during the band's rehearsal with the Boston Pops. Many thanks to Nettwerk and Hem (with extra special thanks to Rachel and Steve) for making it possible for me to attend rehearsal and for everything else you've all done to make these shows memorable for everyone, including me. Stay tuned for details about tonight's show and more photos!|
|Boston Symphony Hall June Shows|
||Hem is in Boston getting ready for their shows tonight and tomorrow at Symphony Hall with the Boston Pops. Click on the little image to the left to see Sally in the grand Hall (and to see some photos I posted a couple days ago). Thanks to pedal steel man Bob Hoffnar for sharing the picture with All About Hem!|
|New York Times Article|
|The June 24, 2022 edition of the New York Times includes an article about the building trend of indie bands collaborating and playing live with orchestras. The article mentions Hem in talking about this week's EdgeFest Boston Pops series.|
|Boston Symphony Hall June Shows|
||I was at Boston Symphony Hall last night to see the Cowboy Junkies play the EdgeFest series with the Boston Pops that Hem will play on Tuesday and Wednesday. Before the show, a giant screen above the stage advertised Hem's shows. Click on the small preview to the left to see the two promo images. And then go buy your tickets for the shows because all indicators point to fantastic evenings!|

|Boston Herald Article|
|Today's Boston Herald has an article about Hem and their upcoming Symphony Hall shows. In the article, Dan and Sally discuss Hem's impending performances with the 90-piece Boston Pops orchestra. You can find a permanent link to the article at the interview archive.|
|August 23, 2021 Philadelphia Show|
||Click on the small preview to the left to see photos from Hem's August 23, 2021 show at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia, PA (Thanks, Bill!). This batch of pictures includes one of my favorite concert pictures of Sally ever - the shadows give her a look of eeeeeeeevil that no doubt betrays whatever she's singing there. You can find permanent links to these pictures at the 2003 tour and tour photos archives.|
|November 15, 2021 Philadelphia Show|
||Go back even further in Hem's touring life with this new group of photos from Hem's November 15, 2021 show at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia, PA (Thanks again, Bill!). You can find permanent links to these pictures at the 2002 tour and concert photos archives. As you can see, I'm always happy to add information to the tour archive, so if you have setlist details or photographs from any Hem show, let me know!|
|April 5, 2022 Philadelphia Show|
||Click on the small preview to the left to see photos from Hem's April 5, 2022 show at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia, PA (Thanks, Bill!). Go take a look and stroll down memory lane, back when everybody in the band had really short hair and Dan always had an accordion in tow. You can find permanent links to these pictures at the 2003 tour and concert photos archives.|
|Boston Symphony Hall June Shows|
|Hem's two couldn't-be-more-awesome shows at Boston's Symphony Hall with the Boston Pops are fast approaching. You can buy tickets online to the June 26 and June 27 shows, or you can call the box office at 888-266-1200 and get a 20% discount. The Boston Symphony Orchestra in the Boston Globe is calling Hem's effort to make these shows happen "Herculean" given the short notice after previous headliner M. Ward's appearance had to be postponed. Seriously, you want to make it to these shows!|
|Tour and EP News Round-Up|
|It never fails - I go on vacation and Hem news explodes everywhere. Sorry for the delay in sharing the following news. Everything's back to normal now (except for my sense of time zones).
Big EP News #1: The new EP Home Again, Home Again is here! You can download it through a number of online retailers, like iTunes and eMusic. It's super music - go get it!
Big EP News #2: Looks like the CD release of Home Again, Home Again happens on June 26. The CD may have a limited printing, so if you want one, you might want to get it on or soon after June 26. Better yet, you can pre-order it now, like at Amazon.
Big Tour News: Hem will play a couple very cool shows with the Boston Pops at Boston's Symphony Hall on June 26 and 27. The shows are part of the EdgeFest summer series where contemporary bands play their songs with the backing of the full Boston Pops orchestra. I've seen some of these shows, and they are incredible. This one will surely be no different (except better, because it's Hem!). More details about the shows, including ticket information, are on the tour page.
|I probably won't be able to update All About Hem for about a week, but there will likely be Hem news in that time. Check Hem's site and Hem's MySpace for any big news. I'll still be happy to get news, questions, and comments by email, so feel free to contact me. I'll be back making regular updates as soon as possible!|
|Home Again, Home Again Celebration Day|
|Hem's lovely new EP called Home Again, Home Again hits iTunes today. Go, buy! I'll be here when you get back! As a reminder, you'll be able to get the EP through other retailers starting June 12. Late Day Update: You can still celebrate Home Again, Home Again, but you won't be able to do it now. Hem says circumstances beyond their control prevented its release today. Bummer! Hopefully it will still be available soon.
|You can find lyrics to the six songs on Home Again, Home Again here (and through the main lyrics page here). The page is as accurate as possible, but I know corrections will be made later, at the very least to add the songwriters of each song (three are just listed as "Hem" right now).|
|January 18, 2022 Philadelphia Show|
||Click here or on the small preview to the left to get a nice blast from the past: pictures from Hem's January 18, 2022 show at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, PA (Thanks to Bill!). The photos are really great and varied with close views of every band member, including Mark who's usually too hidden in back on the drums to get the photo treatment. Go check them out! You can find permanent links to these photos at the concert pictures archive and the 2004 tour archive.|
|The Part Where You Let Go|
|FYI, the version of "The Part Where You Let Go" made available for listening a few days ago at Hem's MySpace page is different than the one that was there in previous weeks (and the one that was briefly downloadable - see May 8 news). I think the one there now is the EP version, and the previous version was the Liberty Mutual commercial version with the Half Acre style ending. The versions pretty much sound the same except for the playout at the very end, but I thought I'd mention it (especially since I like the EP version a little better).|
