Hem stopped by Minnesota Public Radio yesterday in St. Paul, and you can hear their radio performance and interview. They packed the whole 10-piece group in the studio to play 3 songs and to talk about Funnel Cloud and toss out some love for the awesome Lincoln Center show. A permanent link to this radio show is at the interview archive.

WNYC Radio Interview
Dan was a guest on the September 21, 2006 edition of Soundcheck on New York's WNYC. In this edition's show about music in advertising, Dan talks a good bit about the use of "Half Acre" in television commercials for Liberty Mutual insurance. There's a permanent link to this spot at the interview archive.
September 23 New York Show
More goodies from this show are on the way, but for now feast your eyes on the setlist for Hem's 9/23 show at Irving Plaza in New York City. It was the band's first outing with their mini orchestra in tow (clarinet, harp, and violin) which they'll have on the remainder of their tour. It is most definitely something to hear live if you have the chance.

New York Daily News Article
Today's New York Daily News includes an article about Hem featuring a bunch of words from Dan about the band's ambition, Sally's perfect voice, song themes, and of course the band's Brooklyn home. You can find a permanent link to this article at the interview archive.
Stereogum.com Article
One of my favorite music blogs Stereogum asks Sally today about ten of her favorite and least favorite things. Go here to read the entry, which also includes some links to songs for download. Why yes, this article is also at the interview archive.
Win a copy of Funnel Cloud
In case for some tragic reason you don't already have Hem's new album, JamBase is giving away 5 copies of Funnel Cloud. Click here for the entry page.
September 14 Los Angeles Show
Watch a video of Hem performing the song "Not California" at their show last week in Los Angeles at The Troubadour. Check Dan kicking in with vocals and Sally turning over to him as if he's never done that audibly before (which he usually doesn't). The video's right here or you can access it through YouTube's site or the 2006 tour archive.

I have been here before and I know the way
I'm happy to announce a new feature at All About Hem: a sitemap. Finally, a chance for me to quote Leave Me Here lyrics in a news heading! Now you can see everything that's here in one place and always be able to quickly find your way to your Hem goodie of choice. It's a menu option on the left, but it's only there on this front page and a select few other pages, so don't be surprised if for at least a little while you don't see the sitemap button everywhere.
"Redwing" Video
There's a video for Hem's song "Redwing!" It's extremely cool and you should watch it right now. The footage really is from the Eveningland recording sessions. See the video below or visit Nettwerk at YouTube. (Nettwerk is Hem's management company.)

The Drop Interview
Check out The Drop Spotlight to hear a new interview with Gary Maurer. Hear him talk about the making of Funnel Cloud, the evolution of some of its songs, and the awesomeness of this website (which thereby qualifies this interview as an All About Hem instant favorite). Thanks to Dan Portnoy at The Drop Online for the interview and the kind words. You can find a permanent link to this spot at the interview archive.

New Tour Dates
Two more concerts have been added to the tour page: Oct. 11 in Asheville, NC and Oct. 14 in Annapolis, MD.
Temporary Hiatus
I probably won't be able to update the site until early next week. Everything here is accurate as of Sept. 7, but no doubt additional tour details and other news will arise before I can add it here. While I'll likely be unable to update the site, I'll be checking my email and would be incredibly grateful to receive any and all Hem news, setlists, etc. - just click the contact button on the left. I'll post another update as soon as I can!

Order Funnel Cloud
If you're wondering where to buy Hem's new album, here are two suggestions, each with a special bonus. Download the album at iTunes and get a free outtake tune, "In A Barrel At Sea." Order the CD from Hem's store and the CD cover will be autographed by the band (while supplies last). That's right, you now have no excuse not to buy the album right away!
Discography Update
All the details about Hem's new album Funnel Cloud are now on the discography page. That's a picture of the album cover on the left to help you find it in stores and to simply admire (click on it for a larger version).
Lyrics Update
Partially complete for a while, the Funnel Cloud lyrics page finally has all the new songs. The words are included in the album's very pretty liner notes, so get them there too.
New Concert Dates
Visit the tour page for (right now very limited) information about new October shows in these cities: Louisville, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Philadelphia, and Falls Church. Special kudos for Toronto for picking up Hem's first non-festival, full-length show in Canada.
"Reservoir" Live Download
You can hear the song "Reservoir" on Funnel Cloud, and you can also pick up a live version of it from Pitchfork. Visit Pitchfork for a free download of "Reservoir" (scroll down) recorded at one of Hem's shows in February 2006. This is the same live version that was previously available as a free download at Hem's site and that's on the 2006 tour sampler promotional CD.
September 5, 2006
Funnel Cloud Celebration Day
Hem's fourth full length album, the fantastic Funnel Cloud, lands in stores today. Go buy it! I'll be here when you get back!
September 2, 2006
Meanings Update
Thanks to Hem's 3rd studio podcast, the Funnel Cloud meanings page includes new details for the songs The Burnt Over District, Hotel Fire, and I'll Dream Of You Tonight. Incidentally, now that I've heard that podcast (thanks, Barkley!), I have to give it an extra recommendation because while it has some interesting Funnel Cloud information, it also has unexpected treats like vetoed arrangements of a few No Word From Tom songs and a complete Funnel Cloud outtake tune. I guess we'll have to wait until podcast #4 to find out if the 3 guys will ever let Sally out of whatever broom closet they've locked her in so she can join the podcast fun and, you know, not be locked in a tiny room anymore.
Lyrics Update
Words for the sweet little Funnel Cloud outtake song "In A Barrel At Sea" are now on the lyrics page.
Funnel Cloud Advertisement
Be on the lookout for this nice Funnel Cloud print ad in magazines (click on the preview for a larger version). Just imagine that you're seeing it next week when Funnel Cloud really is in stores and Hem really is on tour.
We Discover For The First Time Ever That I Am Not Perfect
Apparently the links for Hem's great XM Radio interview on the Bob Edwards Show have not been working since I transitioned All About Hem to this new website address in July. So if you've tried accessing it recently, the audio files are available again now. Sorry for the error! If you ever find any broken links or missing files at the site, do let me know because I probably don't know about it and could easily fix it.
